{Bridesmaids} Please Don’t Wear it Again…

I’ve been super-duper lucky when it comes to the bridesmaid gig. I’ve done it twice, both times as a MOH and I wore the same dress. I was the only person standing up for the bride in each wedding and I totally got to pick my own. Score. Though I chose the dress, I don’t think I’ve worn it for any other occasion. I don’t even know if I still have it.

And perhaps it’s not the dress itself that women can’t/won’t wear again. Maybe there’s more of a psychology to a bridesmaid dress than it simply being inappropriate for another occasion (or just plain hideous). Hm. I wonder if there’s any validity to that thought? Is there some sort of mental thing that happens to us when it comes to the bridesmaid gown? I wonder.

At any rate, I saw a few dresses this week that I thought were super pretty and might, just MIGHT be wearable again….assuming we don’t have a mental block to do so.

I very much want this dress right now. Via Etsy seller Idea2Lifestyle.

OK…..stop right here. I totally tried to find some dresses that I thought were doable and I just kept running into more and more pictures of dresses that I wouldn’t wear versus ones that I would. So, I’m going to post the Bridesmaid dress Don’ts instead. Much funnier for a Friday, yes?

Really? Come on folks.

I don’t care if it’s in Hawaii. Friends don’t do this to friends.

image

I see where this was trying to go, but it was a fail. The dresses look like they belong on Granny’s sofa.

It’s BRIDESmaid, not FRENCH maid.

Expensive ≠ Tasteful

Contrary to popular opinion, I think there is such a thing as too many ruffles. This picture proves that.

Horizontal stripes? Now that’s just mean.

1983 called and it wants its sleeves back.

I mean the bride could have tried, TRIED to choose a dress that was figure-friendly for them all.

OK. I do believe that’s enough snarky for one day.

Happy Friday, y’all!

I kinda like some of those dresses, but anyway . . .

It's sort of a weird thing, this new obsession with bridesmaids being able to wear their dresses again. I was all set on that myself and then somehow we all got swept up into white chiffon and they ended up splurging on stuff they probably won't wear again (although one bridesmaid wore it as her own wedding dress a month later! *high five*). But, I mean, it IS a special occasion and they are PART of it, which doesn't happen everyday. So why not buy something special for that day? And for pictures that you will be in that will mean something to the bride and groom for the rest of their lives? It's important!

Although choosing something flattering is definitely important. That bride who chose those hideous ruched violet . . . things? Not cool.

@Veronica - I like some of those dresses too - individually. Like all those ruffles together? Too much. But I like each dress. And I like the striped dresses too, but again it's about the body type and flattering the ladies, not making them look wider than they really are.

Agreed - that ruched number is hideous on all counts.

And the long prairie skirts was a good effort that fell flat. Just the yellow might have been OK. The other dark colors in that shiny taffeta material? Blech.

Those are all mega-jacked up. Especially the Hawaii and the horizontal stripes. Sadly, my slutty side kind of liked the silver ones. But not for a wedding.
